Holistic Medicine and Stress Research Unit Government Medical College Trivandrum, India

Holistic Medicine Clinic was setup four years ago. However, very little research work was being done. We were only doing clinical work. This clinic is the brainchild of Dr. P. K. Jayrus, assistant professor medicine. He observed that an overwhelming number of patients who visited Government Medical College, Trivandrum were patients who did not have any structural disease. These patients become sick due to stress of possibly emotional, financial or social in nature. This prompted Dr. P. K. Jayrus to send a proposal to the Government of Kerala to set up a clinic specifically for such patients. These patients refuse psychiatry referrals, therefore a clinic under the department of medicine was needed. This clinic was named Holistic Medicine Clinic.
